FIRST DAY ON THE FLOOR: 2/7/12 – 325 hours – Student Designer
“So, were my feet supposed to be so sore? The hustle and bustle of the salon floor took some getting used to; I felt like everyone but me knew where to go, what to do , and like they were salon pro’s. Throughout the day I worked on my mannequin and tried to just get the general feeling for the salon and what I should do. I walked in feeling like a kid on the first day of school all over again.
I feel like the day flew by and I can barely remember anything except the adorable expectant mother who came in for a day of pampering. I was shocked; I got the opportunity to work on a real client on my first day and to my surprise it was nowhere near as nerve racking as I had expected. I love manicuring so I wasn’t nervous exactly, but it was definitely different than working on my fellow students. she was so nice and excited to hear that it was my first day. She comes regularly to Lytle’s Beauty College and seemed genuinely thrilled to support working students during our educational period.
I probably asked a million questions but more advanced students were extremely helpful and let me know, “It feels like just yesterday I was in your shoes” and “Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it”. I went to bed later that night thinking of the whole day, and making a list of all the questions I wanted to ask tomorrow and of all the things I am excited to learn.”
