What’s it like to be a student at Lytle’s Beauty College?

Starting a new school can be scary, starting a new career even scarier. Here’s what our latest Cosmetology classes had to say about their first few weeks here at Lytle’s Beauty College.

“Coming in, I had no idea what to expect. Not being from Santa Rosa and not knowing anyone that was going to be in my class made me extremely nervous. I arrived 45 minutes early (very glad I did) and got to calm myself down before I came in. When I did come in to class Fari greeted me and made me feel very comfortable. When we all got clocked in and ready to go it was silent and all I could think was; it’s always going to be like this and I’m going to make no friends”. I was very wrong! Once we started looking through our books and the day went on it all got much more comfortable. I honestly feel that if we didn’t have Fari it would be very hard to feel as comfortable as we do. She is the most accepting teacher I have ever had, I love her!”

– Hailey D.

” I was a little overwhelmed at first but after the first weeks I was very happy. Our Sophomores were so inviting and were also helpful. My first test I didn’t use the tools I was told to use and didn’t do so well but after I started using the online learning and other tolls we were given I did much better. I loved the color chapter and even though wrapping a perm isn’t something I would like to do everyday, I still enjoyed it that chapter as well. Fari is so helpful and kind. She makes me want to be interested in what I am learning. Sonny was helpful during finals by making it easy to explain the steps for each application. I am very happy here and that I can for the first time say, I love what I am learning about! Fari is a wonderful teacher and makes you feel like no questions is a dumb question.”

– Madison G.

” My first day was very exciting but a bit nerve wracking at first. Once class started I was more calm because the staff is really welcoming and comforting. The Sophomores in the class were also really nice and helpful. After all the typical first day of school stuff it was really cool diving right into theory and manicuring. I think it’s really great that there’s a lot of hands on learning and it made me really excited and anxious (in a good way) to go through schooling here at Lytle’s. “

– Cynthia C.

” My first 6 weeks was awesome! My Sophomores were super welcoming as well as helpful with any questions I had. I was never afraid to ask the teacher of fellow students any questions.

I was afraid mostly for the tests but Fari goes over the material so much during the week that it is pretty munch ingrained your mind by the time the test comes along.

The best part is learning in an environment where everyone wants to grow ass well as see everyone else grow. Everyone always has a positive attitude.”

– Kayla S.

“The first day of school was fantastic! I felt extremely welcomed by the teacher as well as the Sophomores. It was really thoughtful for them to put on a small breakfast for us newcomers. We went right into learning, the instructors made it very understandable and the demonstration was very helpful. When we got our kits, it felt like Christmas all over again. The first day was unforgettable and was a positive experience, better than any other school.”

– Eliana G.

“The nail chapter was challenging for me because of the diseases, disorders, and conditions. They all sounded the same but I eventually got through it. My favorite part about the first 6 weeks was the hair cutting. I was surprisingly, way better at it than I thought I would be. I got a lot of the guys in my apartment complex asking me to give them a fade so I was happy to get the practice. I absolutely believe I belong here at Lytle’s; the people and staff here make it so comfortable. I love the energy and “family” like vibe here. It makes getting up early & going to school more enjoyable. I look forward to what I’m going to learn next.”

– Haley A.

“My first day at Lytle’s was amazing. It was definitely better than I had expected it to be even though my expectations were really high. I have learned so much in this past week and I am so excited that there is so much more to learn. The staff and the students are so friendly and helpful. I know that when I graduate, I am going to be more than prepared to take my state board exam and work in a professional salon. I can’t wait to continue this journey and see where it takes me in life.”

– Ashley C.

“The first 6 weeks for me was a big challenge with so much book work, testing, and quizzes. I was so nervous for my final at the end but, I got a good grade. I finally found a comfortable way to study and memorize information for tests and I know the next 6 weeks will be much easier and fun for me and my classmates.”

– Yecenia M.

“My first day went very well. It wasn’t what i had really expected (not in a bad way!). It was just overwhelming and a ton of information to take in. The sophomores are great and really kind to us. I love Fari, she is by far the best instructor I have ever had and I’m so excited to see where this year takes me. I hope I’m good at what I do and make everyone here proud.”

– Carsen F.

“My first week of Lytle’s has been great! Fari is amazing and a great teacher. The sophomores are super sweet to us freshman, which definitely makes it an easier transition. I’m very excited to get tot he color chapter, it’s what I’m most looking forward to. Also, it’s so nice coming to a school there the instructors know your name right away. It makes me feel/know you all really care about us.”

1. What made you choose beauty as a career?

I chose beauty as a career because I have always enjoyed working with people and I like making people feel beautiful, not only on the outside but on the inside as well.

2. How did you decide to enroll at Lytle’s?

I looked at other schools in the area and researched online. Once I came to the Lytle’s Open House: I was SOLD! It seemed like a very close knit & caring environment.

3. What is life like outside of school?

I’m married and have a toddler; so I’m always busy trying to juggle school & parenthood. It’s a hard balance to do well and keep up: laundry, homework, dinners, grocery shopping, and more laundry.

4. What is your most memorable experience here at Lytle’s?

The moment when my 90 degree haircut finally clicked!! That haircut had me in tears; but I conquered it and now its one of my favorites.

Embracing beauty into my life has allowed me to look at myself and the people around me in a much softer light. I judge less, I love more, and I accept myself just the way I am.

6. Where do you see yourself after graduation?

I see myself busy owning a salon and making tons of $$ !!!

7. Do you have any advice to anyone thinking about beauty as a career?

Go for it! Be easy on yourself in the learning process, everyone learns at their own rate. Doing something new is scary, but change and challenge is good for the soul.

8. Is there anything else that you would like to say or share?

This school is so much more than a beauty college. For so many of the students, it is LIFE college, where we have the opportunity to learn Cosmetology as well. The curriculum is very detailed and well thought out. The staff is wonderfully open and down to earth.

1. What made you choose beauty as a career?

I don’t have one most memorable  moment, I have hundreds! The people who I love, will be with me forever.

On a path to success! Maybe being an apprentice, taking lots of extra classes, and in a few years I WILL own a salon.

7. Do you have any advice to anyone thinking about beauty as a career?
