What’s it like to be a student at Lytle’s Beauty College?

Starting a new school can be scary, starting a new career even scarier. Here’s what our latest Cosmetology classes had to say about their first few weeks here at Lytle’s Beauty College.

“Coming in, I had no idea what to expect. Not being from Santa Rosa and not knowing anyone that was going to be in my class made me extremely nervous. I arrived 45 minutes early (very glad I did) and got to calm myself down before I came in. When I did come in to class Fari greeted me and made me feel very comfortable. When we all got clocked in and ready to go it was silent and all I could think was; it’s always going to be like this and I’m going to make no friends”. I was very wrong! Once we started looking through our books and the day went on it all got much more comfortable. I honestly feel that if we didn’t have Fari it would be very hard to feel as comfortable as we do. She is the most accepting teacher I have ever had, I love her!”

– Hailey D.

” I was a little overwhelmed at first but after the first weeks I was very happy. Our Sophomores were so inviting and were also helpful. My first test I didn’t use the tools I was told to use and didn’t do so well but after I started using the online learning and other tolls we were given I did much better. I loved the color chapter and even though wrapping a perm isn’t something I would like to do everyday, I still enjoyed it that chapter as well. Fari is so helpful and kind. She makes me want to be interested in what I am learning. Sonny was helpful during finals by making it easy to explain the steps for each application. I am very happy here and that I can for the first time say, I love what I am learning about! Fari is a wonderful teacher and makes you feel like no questions is a dumb question.”

– Madison G.

” My first day was very exciting but a bit nerve wracking at first. Once class started I was more calm because the staff is really welcoming and comforting. The Sophomores in the class were also really nice and helpful. After all the typical first day of school stuff it was really cool diving right into theory and manicuring. I think it’s really great that there’s a lot of hands on learning and it made me really excited and anxious (in a good way) to go through schooling here at Lytle’s. “

– Cynthia C.

” My first 6 weeks was awesome! My Sophomores were super welcoming as well as helpful with any questions I had. I was never afraid to ask the teacher of fellow students any questions.

I was afraid mostly for the tests but Fari goes over the material so much during the week that it is pretty munch ingrained your mind by the time the test comes along.

The best part is learning in an environment where everyone wants to grow ass well as see everyone else grow. Everyone always has a positive attitude.”

Everyone from my fellow classmates to the educators are so positive and happy to be here. It’s been a while since I’ve been in school and I was a little worried about how I’d “do”. I have to say I was a little overwhelmed at first but every thing seems to be clicking just fine. That’s a relief! I am absolutely thrilled to be here. It was a struggle to decide to completely change my life; move, quit my career, and move away from my family. After my first week I can say that I’m so glad I had the courage to come here and be part of this institution. Thank you for accepting me into your family.” – Lani M.

The girls in my class are very nice and I’ve already made great connections with some of the girls! I’m looking forward to my remaining 1600 hours. Every morning I wake up excited to come to school, which is a feeling I’ve never had! I love REBC!” – Mika B

I’m a little overwhelmed witht he workload but I know I’ll get used to it really quick. I really like all fo the girls in my class and feel like I’ve already made some really good friends. I’m excited to see what the rest of this year has in store.” – Taylor M.

The first day of a new career…

“This is something I’ve been looking forward to since I was just a little girl! I was full of both nerves and excitement, knowing that the day had finally begun for me to start my new career! Everyone was so nice and welcoming, especially the students that had been here a little longer than me! Right when Kathy started telling us about herself and the expectations, so to speak, of Lytle’s, you could tell that this wasn’t just a normal beauty school. People here act as one big family; encouraging, complimenting, and generally caring for one another. I couldn’t be more thrilled and excited to be here and I look forward to everyday on this ongoing journey through and beyond/after I leave Lytle’s REBC!” -Maranee C.

”On my first day of my new life we were in the area of nails. I love getting my nails done so I was super excited about that. The diseases, conditions, and disorders of the nails were very interesting. The pictures really helped to show me what it truly looked like. I love everyone in my class and they were all very welcoming and helpful around the classroom. At first, I was very nervous coming into a school where I didn’t know a single person, but I’ve already met some amazing girls and I feel like we’ve known each other forever. We eat lunch together, we’re partners for everything, we joke around, and we study together. Doing all of this has made my first week fo school amazing and I’m so happy I started here. I love it!” -Jazymne Taylor

”I was very nervous my first day, I didn’t know what to expect. I got to class early and found that most people were already there. The teachers introduced themselves and seemed very nice, which made me relax some. After the introductions we pretty much jumped right into the lesson. It was a little overwhelming at first but the teachers and students who had already been here for 6 weeks were very helpful. The day flew by, before I knew it the day was over and I had finished my first day as a Cosmetology Student. Even with how fast paced and overwhelming the first day seemed, it was a lot of fun.” -Jessica Rankin

“My first day at Lytle’s was really exciting for me. Everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. All of the staff and teachers are very helpful. Even though all the information was new and somewhat overwhelming at first, class was fin and interesting. The seven hour class day went by really fast, I expected it to feel much longer. I can’t wait to see how the year at Lytle’s goes, I think it will be great.” -Cosmetology Student about Day 1

“My first day here went really well and was way better than I expected. Coming into this I thought it was going to be very long and boring days just learning out of a book. The teachers are so great and have the perfect way of teaching. They don’t overload us with too much information at once and I love how we start the day off learning new things and then practicing the new things. It’s the perfect balance for me and I look forward to coming to school knowing each day I am getting closer to achieving my goals. The teachers make it easy to open up and if we don’t understand how to do something they are more than happy to re-explain and help. They never think a question is stupid, so I’m not afraid to ask questions when I don’t fully understand something. I’m so grateful to be here and can’t wait to continue my time here and learn as much as I can.” -Charleen Vierra

“My very first few days have been exciting to say the least. I have learned so much in only a few days. I hope to learn even more in the next few weeks. As for the classroom atmosphere, everyone is so welcoming, Fari and Austin are such wonderful teachers. I am excited to learn from them and I already like their teaching methods. I’m excited to see what is next to learn.” -Alexis Garth

“I couldn’t have asked for a better first day here at Lytle’s! Having not been in school for a few months, I was nervous but quickly that changed. Right away I made some friendships that I can tell will last throughout our time here and even after that. The people who sit around me are very helpful and always ready to answer and questions I have. Right after we all introduced ourselves to Fari and then she went back and said all of our names which impressed me that she had them down so fast. I also noticed how Kathy was with all of us when she came into the classroom. I loved seeing that she is not only a business owner, but actually goes in depth with the students of her school.” -Samantha Noel

“This has been and continues to be the best experience of my life. I love coming to school and I like the teaching format so far. It is clean, concise, and easy to comprehend. This school is so lucky to have an educator like Fari! She is a wonderful teacher. If I had Fari as my teacher in elementary, junior and high school; I’m sure my grades then would have been much better! So, hats off to you for a great education and my future career!” – Katrina P.

” I really enjoyed my first six weeks at REBC. Everyone is so helpful, especially the educators. They are all so hands on and I feel like they all genuinely want us to succeed. We started in the skin section which was a little overwhelming, but afterwards when we moved on to color, I loved it! Color felt like it came very natural to me. I really enjoyed seeing the hair color change and being able to see each step of it. I really look forward to moving to the floor and being able to apply all these concepts to actual clients.” – Krista H.

“My first 6 weeks have been amazing! I love everything. Fari is the best teacher, you can really see how much she cares about her students and making sure they succeed. Austin is also great! I love having him in the classroom, he is a great instructor and he also really cares for his students. All of the information I learned my first 6 weeks really made me excited to be here and continue my education throughout this program (and of course after I graduate too). All of the staff here is wonderful! I already think that this is an amazing school and I can’t wait to see how much I learn and grow!” – Nicole S.

“I have appreciated the motivation is the staff to create empowered career oriented individuals as opposed to cookie cutter replicas off of a factory line. We are encouraged and emboldened to find who we are while maintaining a high level of respect and achievement.

I have never been an A student. I have never felt it important to receive high marks. At REBC, I enjoy what I’m learning and the manner in which we learn, lecture AND hands on. I am most proud to sya I ended my initial 6 weeks with a 98% overall grade. I could not be happier knowing I worked hard every moment of every day in class and having it pay off. It wasn’t my easiest accomplishment by any means, but it is one of my most valued” – Fiance W.

” The first six weeks were full of change for me. For the first time in my life I received 100% on a test and worked hard to get it. All of the self limiting beliefs I had about myself academically and some of my value systems which were negative, I was able to challenge and have proved myself to be a smart, driven, and talented young woman. I did have my moments where I did not see myself ever understanding something but with the help of Austin and Fari, I ended the chapters with confidence. My biggest challenge had been trying to find a way to incorporate my style and technique into what I do. Slowly I am about who I really am everyday at REBC.” – Hilary F.

” I’ve had such and awesome experience the first 6 weeks. I learned so much that I’ve already applied to my life. I’m so excited and eager to move forward in my life as a successful hair designer and salon owner and use all that I’ve learned here at REBC. I’m so thrilled to be completing my last 6 weeks here in Zone 1 (basic training) and finally go down tot he floor and work on real clients. This school is truly a family.” – Chelsea F.
